Each sugar coated tablet contains: Ibuprofen BP 400mg
Ibuprofen provides relief from mild to moderate pain in conditions such as dysmenorrhea, migraine, post-operative pain, rheumatic disorders such as ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis, including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and in other musculo-skeletal and joint disorders such as sprains and strains.
Ibuprofen inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase, thereby inhibiting the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. They also alter platelet function and prolong bleeding time. Ibuprofen is well absorbed after oral administration. It is rapidly metabolized and eliminated in the urine. They excretion of Ibuprofen is virtually complete within 24 hours after the last dose. The serum half life is 1.8 to 2.0 hours.
Adults: recommended initial dose of 1200 – 1800mg daily in divided doses. Some patients can be maintained on 600-1200mg daily. In severe or acute conditions it can be advantageous to increase the dosage until the acute phase is brought under control, provided that the total daily dosage does not exceed 2400mg in divided doses.
Children: Daily Dose: 20mg/kg body weight in divided doses. In juvenile rheumatoid arthritis up to 40mg/kg body weight in divided doses may be taken. In children weighing 30kg, the total dose giving in 24 hours should not exceed 500mg.
Elderly: No special dosage modifications are required for elderly patients, until renal or hepatic function is impaired, in which case dosage should be assessed individually.
Ibuprofen is contraindicated in the following conditions:
1.Bronchospasm
2. Know sensitivity to aspirin
3. Peptic Ulcer
4. Recent gastrointestinal bleeding
5. Renal failure
Blurred or diminished vision has been reported. If a patient developed such complaints while receiving Ibuprofren tablets, the drug should de discontinued and the patient should have an ophthalmologic examination. Fluid retention and oedema have been reported in association with Ibuprofen: therefore, the drug should be used in patients with history of cardiac decompensation or hypertension defects and those on anticoagulant therapy.
The frequent adverse effects associated with Ibuprofen are gastrointestinal disturbance. Peptic ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding have been reported. Other side effects includes dizziness, nervousness, skin rash, tinnitus, oedema, depression, blurred vision, drowsiness, and other reactions
Bronchospasm may be precipitated in patients suffering or with a previous history of bronchial asthma. Ibuprofen should not e given to patients in whom aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammantory drugs induce symptoms of asthma, rhinitis, or urticarial.
